APICA hosts their board elections every year around late January to early Feburary. Elections for the 2025 APICA Board will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

APICA BOARD POSITIONS

There are 11 positions on the APICA Board. Click on a title to learn more.

  • The President is the general manager and supervises, directs, and controls the organization's activities, affairs, and officers. The President presides at all member meetings and represents the organization on all occasions.

  • If the President is absent or disabled, the Vice President shall perform all duties of the president.

  • The Secretary records minutes of all meetings, proceedings, and actions of the board, of committees of the board, and of member meetings.  

  • The Treasurer keeps and maintains the books and accounts of APICA and its transactions. The Treasurer is also the main contact for matters related to the non-profit.

  • The Community Affairs Director is the liaison to the capitol community and API community organizations. The Community Affairs Director leads and plans APICA collaborations and events with the API Legislative Caucus, such as our #CALegLunches.

  • The Communications Director is responsible for communication between the Board and the general membership. This includes managing the APICA Digest, developing promotional materials, and maintaining membership contact information.

  • The Lobbyist Liaison is the APICA liaison to the Third House, or the lobbyist portion of the Capitol Community. The Lobbyist Liaison  is also responsible for promoting APICA events with the Third House, and spearheading the organization's fundraiser events. The Lobbyist Liaison must be a registered lobbyist with the California Secretary of State.

  • The Membership director serves as the liaison to APICA's membership. This includes maintaining the organization’s membership list, and reaching out to potential new members. The Membership Director will also help support APICA's collaboration with the Policy Academies.

  • The Events Director will support the Lobbyist Liaison and the President in event organizing Sushi Showdown, and coordinating our other networking and professional events.

  • The Fellowship Director will manage and program coordinate the annual Summer Fellowship Program. The Fellowship Director will also be in charge of the outreach and application process.

  • The Fellows/Intern Outreach Coordinator is the APICA liaison to new capitol community fellows and interns. The Coordinator is responsible for promoting APICA events with fellows and interns.

Qualifications

To run as a candidate for the APICA Board and/or to vote in our 2025 Election, you must be a current APICA member. Election Procedures

Please note that you must check in at the election meeting to vote. You will not need to attend the entire duration of the meeting.  If you are unable to attend the election meeting at all, you may vote via a proxy. Please see the information on proxy voting in the section below.

Proxy Voting

If you are unable to attend the election meeting, you may cast a vote via proxy ballot. You must still register as a member even if you are voting through a proxy. The proxy ballot will be available on the day of the election. You will be able to cast your vote and you will need to designate a proxy. Please note that your proxy must attend the election meeting and will need to check in at the meeting for your proxy ballot to be counted. Individuals can be a proxy for multiple members as long as the proxy ballot is filled out accordingly and the proxy attends the election meeting. Individuals designated as a proxy may check in at the election meeting until polls close at 4 p.m. Proxies must fill out a  proxy check-in form for each individual they are acting as proxies for. Ex: If an individual is a proxy for three others, they must fill out the form three times, one per individual they are a proxy for.
