Senior Policy Advocate: CPEHN is looking for a full-time Senior Policy Advocate based in our Sacramento office. The Policy Advocate will conduct policy research and analysis on key policy issues impacting communities of color in California. The Policy Advocate will also be responsible for tracking, testifying, and developing letters of support, fact sheets and other communications materials on our Policy Agenda. Senator Jim Beall seeks candidates for an Office Assistant/Field Representative for District Office. The Office Assistant/Field Representative will act as a liaison between the Senator and constituents, district organizations, local governments, and state agencies. Responsibilities include keeping the Senator apprised of relevant district issues, especially those involving state agencies, constituent casework, event-planning, cultivating relationships with constituents, local elected officials, businesses and community organizations on behalf of the Senator; staffing the Senator at community events and conducting research on policy issues of importance to the district. Additional responsibilities include office work such as coordinating and handling administrative tasks, answering the telephone, scheduling as necessary, managing and ordering supplies and providing support for the office. Ideal candidates should possess strong oral and communication skills and be proactive self-starters.  Some nights and weekends required. Assembly Republican Caucus, Office of Member Support and Outreach Classification:  Associate Consultant. The Office of Member Support and Outreach seeks a social media and communications specialist to help run social media channels. Must have communications skills necessary to translate complex policy documents and develop art concepts. Senator Stern is seeking Spring/Summer interns for his Capitol Office. Candidates must be available and willing to work 10+ hrs per week for Spring and/or Summer 2017. Computer-savvy college students or recent graduates with strong written and verbal communication skills preferred. Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell is seeking a Communications Director.  Based in the Long Beach District Office, the Communications Director is responsible for interactions with the media, including writing and issuing press releases, media advisories and editorials, and coordinating interview or statement requests by the press.  The Communications Director will also handle social media, maintain and update the Assemblymember’s website, work with legislative staff to develop media strategies for the Assemblymember’s bills, monitor and coordinate responses to constituents who send letters or emails regarding legislation, help develop mailers and flyers for district events, and assist in other constituent work as needed.  The ideal candidate has established relationships with Long Beach/LA area press; is a good writer and communicator; understands and knows how to use social media; is creative, proactive in developing new strategies, and a fast learner; understands the legislative process; and works well with others.  Please send resume and writing  samples to Sophia.Kwong@asm.ca.gov.

Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson is looking for a principal consultant to help staff environmental issues in her office. Senator Jim Nielsen is seeking a Legislative Director. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Legislative Director will develop and manage the Member’s personal legislation, prepare briefings for the Member on key legislative issues and may serve as the principal substitute for the Member at legislative meetings, analyze legislation and provide policy consultation in areas of interest for Member. Supervises staff including interns and fellows assigned to assist with legislation. Must have extensive knowledge of legislative process, as well as the structure and policies of state government. Minimum 4-6 years of legislative experience including supervisory responsibilities. Must have excellent oral and written communications skills and a strong policy background. Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple projects, operate under strict deadlines, and work well as part of a team. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent research, computer and communications skills as well as having extensive contacts inside and outside the building. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Senator Andy Vidak is seeking a Press Secretary. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Press Secretary will serve as the Communications Director and act as the principal spokesperson for Senator Andy Vidak, who represents California’s 14th Senate District. The Communications Director serves as the primary liaison between the Senator and the press, other media organizations and entities as necessary. The person is also responsible for developing proactive and creative press and social media strategies to articulate the Senator’s legislative priorities. Duties for the Communications Director will include developing and executing strategic communications programs to articulate the Senator’s district and legislative priorities to the general public. The incumbent will also be responsible for managing media and public relations strategies, including preparing press materials and responding to media requests. The person is also responsible for representing the Senator in public venues and/or serving as a media representative and spokesperson as required while overseeing online and communications strategies, including an e-newsletter, website, Facebook and Twitter. High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates must have experience managing broad-based communications and media relations programs, as well as conceptualizing and drafting opinion editorials, letters, e-newsletters, etc., in addition to having a strong understanding of the California legislative process. It is also important for candidates to work well in a team environment and have excellent relationships with a diversity of media in addition to exceptional communication skills. Senator Andy Vidak is seeking an Office Assistant/District Scheduler. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff and District Director, the Office Assistant/District Scheduler will serve in the Fresno District Office. Primary responsibilities include handling all logistics of scheduling district events/meetings for the Senator as well as occasionally representing the Senator at various district events/meetings and working on constituent cases. Applicants must be highly detailed, organized, proficient with Microsoft Office and PCs, and be able to work in a professional environment. The Office Assistant/District Scheduler will manage all aspects of the district calendar which includes short- and long-term proactive planning to ensure a workable and effective district schedule for the Senator.
